What is the CEP?
CEP is the acronym used for Postal Address Code, it was created and is widely used by Mail.
It is a relatively new service, created in 1971, and was created to make it easier to locate the Post Office, which previously was easily lost in cities.
In the beginning, the ZIP code had only five digits, but that was at a time when big cities were not yet the size they are today. So as they grew, it was determined that the ZIP code would need to be eight digits long.

And each of the zip code digits means something to the Post Office. Here's what an example would look like:
00000-000
- The 1st digit refers to the region;
- The 2nd to the sub region;
- The 3rd refers to the sector;
- The 4th refers to the subsector;
- The 5th digit is the sub sector divisor;
- And the 6th, 7th and 8th digits are the distribution suffixes.
For the first digit, the region, the Post Office divided Brazil into ten different postal regions, according to socioeconomic development and growth factors.
Therefore, the regions are as follows:
- Region 0 – Greater São Paulo;
- Region 1 – interior of São Paulo;
- Region 2 – RJ and ES;
- Region 3 – MG;
- Region 4 – BA and SE;
- Region 5 – PE, AL, PB and RN;
- Region 6 – CE, PI, MA, PA, AP, AM, RR, AC;
- Region 7 – DF, GO, RO, TO, MT and MS;
- Region 8 – PR and SC;
- Region 9 – RS.
How do I know the zip code of my location?
So that you can find out the zip code where you live, the first thing to do is go to the Correios website, those responsible for registration and all cataloging.
They have a specific zip code tab, where you enter your address and click “search”.
You will soon be able to check the right street and find out your zip code, which is often used when registering on websites and ordering in e-commerce.
Without the zip code we would never receive our orders, and if we did, it might take a long time for it to be delivered or for someone else to receive it.
Another way to find out your home's zip code is through Google Maps. By entering the tool and typing in the address, you will be able to see images of the street, the zip code, and more information about the location.
And if you don't usually use Bing Maps, just do the same thing as Google Maps, enter the address and press enter for the information to appear.
Now that you know three ways on how to find out the zip code of your location, go to the post office website and avoid letting your packages arrive in the wrong places, and you can use the GPS.
