Gemini and Bard: a union that has already worked

Bard is now Gemini, but it is more powerful, with more resources and new functionalities that aim to facilitate and optimize various tasks.

With each passing day we come across an increasing number of AI tools that have come to revolutionize the market and the lives of all of us.

It's even scary what they are capable of doing.

For example, the ChatGPT, developed by Open AI and released to the public in November 2022, is an example of artificial intelligence generative technology that can create, in a matter of seconds, different forms of content and offer information on any type of subject.

The tool quickly became popular, forcing other technology giants to create competing AIs.

And of course, the almighty Google couldn't be left behind. In December 2023, big tech launched Gemini, a multimodal tool that works with texts, codes, images and videos simultaneously.

But, after all, what is Gemini and how does it work?

Its main characteristic is being able to work with different types of content, in addition to interpreting the main programming languages used in the world and understanding different languages.

Have you ever thought about having text, video and image together with a single command? Fantastic, right?

From the beginning, it was designed to be able to combine these different formats of information and be able to process broader and more complete responses.

Until now, existing AIs did all these tasks separately. You needed a tool for text, another to generate images, and another for videos, and so on.

But Gemini came and brought everything together in one package. The power to combine all this data and generate surprising results is its biggest differentiator.

In its first version, Gemini 1.0, it has three modalities. Are they:

  • Gemini Ultra;
  • Gemini Pro;
  • Gemini Nano.

The difference between them varies depending on the difficulty of the activities that each one is capable of performing.

The Ultra version, for example, is recommended for professionals who work with software development and for those who carry out more complex work.

But regardless, it is a moldable tool to work from data centers to cell phones.

And where does Bard come into this story?

O bard is a chatbot also created by Google to be a direct competitor of ChatGPT. It's a robot that talks using artificial intelligence.

In other words, it creates and develops new content by manipulating machine learning techniques and neural networks. In other words, it is a human brain operated by computing systems.

But despite having similar features, they are not the same. O ChatGPT is limited to providing information and events until the year 2021, while bard It's all in real time (it accesses Google directly).

Point for the bard!

ChatGPT provides results exactly as written in the commands. Bard practically talks to you as if you were a person and understands much more complex subjects.

Another point for him!

The operating languages are also different. O bard uses a language model called LLM which, in English, stands for “large language models”.

And according to Google itself, it is a lightweight and optimized version of LaMDA, the Language Model for Applications and Dialogues (LaMDA).

Already the ChatGPT It is based on programming 175 billion parameters to communicate.

Bard is also equipped with a search/search button and you can even transform the result of your content into a link to share with anyone you want.

And he is polyglot. It's available in 40 languages!

Both have a sidebar for saving and naming conversations.

But the bard You still have an ace up your sleeve: your answers have a button that directly accesses the Google search on the subject you are looking for, and can even be read aloud.

Change in sight: BARD is now Gemini

Until the end of last year, Google's chatbot could be accessed via the website bard.google.com, both via a computer browser and via cell phone.

But as in the world of technology, steps move quickly and changes happen overnight, Google announced on February 8th that the bard now it's called Gemini, uniting its interface and AI model in a single address, making the tool even more improved.

So now, both technologies are the same. According to Google itself, this combination aims to let users know that they are using bigtech's most advanced language model.

Sissie Hsiao, vice president of Google, considers this union one of the most important things in the company's history.

In addition to this great news, it was also announced that this new version is fully updated and full of innovations, but for now only available in the United States.

Check out the main changes

Bard's new address:

As we already said, a virtual assistant interface and an AI model are the same thing and can be accessed at gemini.google.com

Version for Android and iPhone:

In addition to the web version, Gemini can also be accessed on Android and iPhone devices, but for now only in the USA and very soon in other countries.

Anyone who has a cell phone with an Android system can also count on 4GB of RAM and Android 12 operating system.

Gemini Advanced:

For R$96.99 per month you can access the paid version of AI through Google Open AI Premium.

Unlike the simpler version of the free plan, Advanced performs much more difficult tasks, such as long and detailed conversations and assists with complex tasks, such as programming, logical reasoning and creative projects.

For now, it only works in English, but it can be accessed in 150 countries, including Brazil. It offers a two-month free trial and two TB of storage.

Google Assistant and Gemini together:

Google Assistant has joined the bandwagon and will also integrate Gemini.

The idea is that the tool is powered by Gemini, making it even more efficient, guaranteeing more complete and clear results.

Android devices may have Gemini as the default virtual assistant.

The user can activate it with the so-called “Ok, Google” or with a long press on the “Home” key. On the iPhone (iOS), the model will be integrated with the Google app, which will have a button to start a conversation with artificial intelligence.

See you, Duet:

The Duet AI virtual assistant, which is integrated with Google Cloud and Google Workspace tools, is also Gemini, and will bring with it all the benefits of AI to Gmail and Google Docs.

With this integration, Google wants to go directly head to head with Microsoft Copilot, a direct competitor.

The technology giant aims to increase company productivity, as well as protect against cyber attacks.

Gemini, a new era begins

According to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, “In December, we took a significant step forward in our journey to make AI more useful for everyone with the start of the Gemini era, setting a new benchmark across a wide range of text, image, audio benchmarks. and video.

However, Gemini is evolving to be more than just a family of models. It supports an entire ecosystem — from the products that billions of people use every day, to APIs and platforms that help developers and organizations innovate.”

With all these incorporations, practically everything is now Gemini, making all these new “baptisms” a big bet for Google. A bet that has already won.
